Kay Oursler to Share Her Journey of Service in Tanzania
The Mercer Senior Center welcomes Kay Oursler, known in Tanzania as “Bibi Kay,” for an inspiring presentation about her Peace Corps years and raising twenty-one Tanzanian orphans on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 12:15 p.m. The Center is located at 2518 Martha Lake Road in Mercer.
At age 65, Kay set aside her plans for a quiet retirement and joined the Peace Corps, beginning a new chapter in Tanzania. Over the past 20 years, she has founded the Sunrise Children’s Home orphanage in the village of Uhekule and devoted herself to helping the local community.
A grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of sixteen, Kay spends her summers in Mercer, and we are proud to have her among the Mercer Senior Center Friends. She will share stories of courage, faith, determination, and how one person can change countless lives. She will also have copies of her new book, Becoming Bibi Kay, available for purchase for those interested in learning more about her journey. Proceeds from book sales at this event will benefit the Sunrise Children’s Home and the Mercer Senior Center.
